The reality is that you can only isolate user-interface unit tests from your own code - there will always be some interaction (in hidden and not controllable ways) with the application framework code. It may seem strange to talk about "unit tests" which are supposed to be run in isolation but then talk about "Application tests" which provide the environment in which to run tests.
